About Central Avenue Press
Central Avenue Press is a small, independent, award-winning press. We publish the Thorough Primer Series for Writers
as well as fiction, poetry, and literary non-fiction. We accept two or three manuscripts a year for publication. Our titles are
now available through Biblio Distribution, Quality Books, Baker & Taylor, and Amazon.com.

Central Avenue Press Call for Manuscripts
We're looking for qualified authors to write titles for our Thorough Primer Series for Writers.

Current needs include a how-to on Writing the Personal Memoir.
We will entertain queries for other topics of interest to professional writers as well.
Send your query, an outline or annotated outline, and the first chapter or a writing sample to
Central Ave Press, 2132A Central SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.

We are especially looking for mystery, romance, and sf/fantasy. We look for strong characterization and a good plot line. A well-told story is the holy grail of publishing because it will always stay in print and people will always want to read it. It will also move your manuscript to the top of the heap. So imagine good stories, write them, and send them to us.

We will accept children's and young-adult fiction, but only in rare circumstances will we consider publishing children's picture books. Currently, we do not publish self-help titles, business titles, graphic novels, or cookbooks.

We read all submissions and we don't have a slush pile, but it's up to the author to write a story good enough that people will pay money to read. If you have no regard for your reader, do not send us a manuscript.

Central Avenue Press is one of the few small, independent, for-profit presses that will accept poetry for publication. We are looking for original poetry from poets whose voices have matured and who have a thorough understanding of the poetic forms, be they free verse or traditional. Poetry may be the most difficult literary form to craft well, and we welcome submissions from poets truly dedicated to the genre.

Please be aware that there is a great deal of bad poetry being written today. Unfortunately, a great deal is also being published, and almost none of it is being sold. The reasons are many, but some poets compound the problem by ignoring the reader in their work. Many poets write fragmented, incoherent thoughts and claim that their poetry contains a personal mythology that only they and a few sensitive friends and acquaintances can comprehend. If only your mother, your therapist, your MFA advisor, or yourself can comprehend your poetry, Central Avenue Press is not your best market.
